Me & Emma - Elizabeth Flock

Emotionally charged story of a young girl living with an abusive step father and how eight-year-old Carrie copes with the violence of her life.

As the big sister, Carrie is determined to do anything to keep Emma safe from a life of neglect and abuse at the hands of their drunken stepfather, Richard—abuse their momma can't seem to see, let alone stop.

Others try to support her but it's not until the end of the novel that we realise how Carrie has coped with the stress.

Carrie's childlike behaviour is expertly written by Flock and the reader is drawn into her struggle. We hope that each kind person who reaches out to Carrie will be the one to break the cycle and rescue her.

Flock has a keen understanding of the child's viewpoint and treats the subject sensitively without resorting to gratuitous violence.
